So what’s the deal on Tallow Cream you may ask? Here’s all the info for you.

As you are no doubt aware in the world of skincare, trends come and go but there are some age-old trends that stand the test of time. Tallow which is basically rendered fat from either cows or sheep may most likely not be what comes to mind when you think of skincare but it has some remarkable benefits for your skin. Let’s dive into the why, how and all the info of tallow and the creation of THE Tallow Cream soon to be available to you.

THE Tallow Cream - Marshmallow, Rose and Orange

So why is Tallow so good for your skin?

  1. It is a natural emollient that closely resembles the skin’s natural oils. When applied to your skin it forms a breathable barrier that helps to lock in moisture leaving your skin feeling soft and silky. Or as I like to call it - your skin having a dance party! It’s an ideal option for those for sensitive or irritated skin.

  2. Vitamins and Nutrients - It contains a bucket load of vitamins and nutrients that are beneficial for your skin. These include Vitamin A, D, E and K which help contribute to that radiant skin glow! Vitamin A supports skin cell turnover, Vitamin E offers antioxidant protection against free radicals, It also contains conjugated linoleum acid (CLA) with has been associated with anti-inflammatory effects.

How did the Tallow cream come about

Like all products in the Seed and Glow range the genesis of this product came about through personal use. I was part of a Facebook formulators group that focusses on natural cosmetic options for your skin. A member of the group was raving about how tallow balm was doing amazing things for her skin. Colour me intrigued! Curious I found some info on rendering and deodorising tallow - let’s be honest, no-one wants to smell like their Sunday roast! Then I found a basic formulation. Finding it just a little too heavy and greasy I tweaked it to include some light weight emollients that are nourishing to your skin and loved it.

But….was still looking for that perfect texture and skin feel so continued to research and trial different actives and methods to get the perfect result. Using it at work, colleagues would stop by and just grab a little to put on their parched skin and then started asking me to make some for them. A product intended just for me will now be available for you too! To give the cream just a little more oomph I decided to include some herbs infused in golden jojoba oil that are nourishing and softening - marshmallow root and the famous rose. These herbs give the cream its buttery yellow colour. You may be surprised to learnt that no - dried roses don’t colour oil pink. For a citrus kick there is also some orange essential oil.

Is it greasy? Now that’s a good question! Because of its composition that closely resembles the oils produced by our skin tallow absorbs quickly. Of course being a fat and combined with oil there is a slight oily feel on application, however the particular formulation designed by Seed and Glow will leave your skin soft and silky.

So what’s with the silica? You can get confused with the difference between silica which is a naturally occurring mineral and silicone which is a synthetic polymer made from silicon, oxygen, carbon and hydrogen. Silica adds to the silky smooth finish that can help blur skin imperfections.

Future versions of THE Tallow cream will also have some Australian native Strawberry Gum and as with all Seed and Glow products there will be an unfragranced version for people who want all the goodness without any aroma.

THE Tallow cream ingredients - (you deserve to know what’s going on your skin!)

Tallow

Isopropyl Myristate - an ester of isopropyl alcohol and myristic acid, a fatty acid. Used as an emollient and it’s ability to create a smooth, non-greasy texture. It enhances spreadability and absorption.

Marshmallow root and rose extract in Jojoba Oil - Jojoba is not an oil but a plant wax with a similar composition to human skin. Helps hydrate, smooth and balance the skin. Marshmallow root - a soothing and skin softening herb. Dried rose - Helps maintain a healthy complexion and glowing skin.

Cera-bellina - a modified form of beeswax which is used for thickening and giving a unique sensory profile, leaving a smooth and velvety finish

Tocopherol - More commonly known as Vitamin E - an anti-oxidant

Sweet Orange essential oil - Derived from steam distilled orange peels, gives a fresh citrus kick. Not photo-toxic.

Silica - different to silicone. A naturally occurring mineral which creates a smooth texture that magically blurs imperfections.
